Get the look: Kelly Kapowski

My fav 80's girl and the first girl I wanted to look like when I was younger, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone either. She was the girl that all the boys dreamed about and all the girls envied. Kelly Kapowski was the homecoming queen, prom queen and the aim of Zack Morris' heart. If any of you have seen Saved by the Bell you will know what on earth I'm talking about, if not, Saved by the Bell was an American television show in the late 80's - early 90's set in California. It told the story of 'cool guy' Zack Morris and his 5 other chums. One of them being Kelly Kapowski. When I was younger I was constantly wanting to look like her (I even made myself some pom poms) and now, with today's fashion trends - it's possible hooray!

Obviously there are still parts were I would probably suggest you stay way clear off *cough cough* lycra leotards! But other than that, this look is so easy peasy right now - I have selected a few of my favourite options from my favourite stores!

HIGH WAISTED SHORTS OR SKIRTS
HIGH WAIST TURN UP HEM MOM DENIM SHORTS
Missguided - £20.00
Kelly was always seen in a skimpy pair of high waisted shorts or skirts, try going for a light wash denim to really create her signature look.

CROP TOP
Forever 21 - £6.00
3 of Kelly's key looks all in one; off the shoulder, floral and crop. She very rarely had her belly hidden, and mind you neither would I if my belly was as toned! Floral print was a reocurring print of hers, as you see her wearing floral on tops, skirts, shorts, jeans and even jackets! Don't forget this is one of Kelly's statement outfits, and look how cheap it is!

WHITE 'SNEAKERS'
New Look - £9.99
Perfect for all them sports that Kelly used to play. It also adds a cute, quirky look to your outfits if maybe heels or dolly shoes are not your thing.

GYPSY TOP

Strawberry Lemonade Online - £20.00
When she wasn't wearing a crop top or an oversized top, she often wore a pastel coloured gypsy top. It's great for creating that playful Kelly look, as it looks so feminine and cute. This one is also perfect if you can't bear your belly being out, as it's not cropped!

DENIM JACKET
Forever 21 - £22
So popular back then, and still as popular today! Denim jackets are perfect with almost anything, and it also helps to casual down a nice outfit for days out. Make sure you go for a cropped jacket and maybe try it with that floral crop top. (Both Forever 21!)

OVERSIZED TOP
H&M - £6.99
Comfortable, simple and casual. Kelly wore oversized tops with almost every pair of jeans, shorts or skirts she owned. Also for that extra step, add a waist belt on top to almost create that peplum style look.

OFF THE SHOULDER

Strawberry Lemonade Boutique - £32.00
Off the shoulder was so popular back in the late 80's early 90's and nearly every piece of clothing Kelly wore followed this trend. It also adds that Kapowski touch to it by the use of stripes, as stripes were also a reoccurring print throughout the series. Create your own Kelly look with this dress and why not add a denim jacket and a pair of them white pumps.

And... Don't forget the crazy 80's hair
To create this look is so simple, one word: BACKCOMB. And a hell of a lot of hairspray - be careful to not spray too much and watch were your spraying (make sure no one is behind you!)

Monthly favourites

I love clothes, I love endlessly searching through shop websites trying to find the cutest outfit that I can waste all my money on. However, I don't like putting hundreds of pieces into my shopping basket only to triple check my bank balance after finally deciding that hmm, maybe it wouldn't be the best idea... Me and my boyfriend George have just booked to go to New York again in February 2016 so unfortunately however much i'd love to spend on thousands of clothes, I have been told many times that I am not allowed. Working class problems, aye? But that doesn't mean I can't window shop right? All the torture with none of the regret.. why do we continue to do this to ourselves?
So anyway, here are my absolute favourite pieces of the month that I can't wait to share with you, and besides if I continue to stare at them enough I may be able to just pretend I have them on.

Navy Daisy Jumpsuit from Dorothy Perkins
£38.00
My obsession with jumpsuits continue. I remember being at work and some lady walked in the store in a navy daisy jumpsuit and I loved it. So as soon as I finished I searched straight away for a similar one and found this one. It's not exactly the same but it is pretty close. Isn't it so pretty! Imagine wearing it with white sandals or wedges, absolutely perfect for BBQs or days out in the sun shopping. Ooh yes please!

Tan Croc Square Handle Tote Bag from Dorothy Perkins
£28.00
Unfortunately this is sold out online, but when I was walking around my local store it grabbed my attention instantly. I love croc material at the moment, and although my bag now is the same material it's a lot bigger which means all my stuff falls to the bottom of the bag and what a nusicance it is when trying to find my phone or my keys. However this one is perfect for them rushed moments, as its not tall at all.

Faux Suede Crisscross Sliders from Forever 21
£14.00
How comfy and cute do these look! This is what I needed on my holiday this year, walking around the pool or walking from bar to shop to bar to shop. If I grab these, surely that means I'm allowed another holiday right?

Babydoll Dress with High Neck and Flared Sleeves from ASOS
£25.00
Last but not least, this cutesy dress! I LOVE it! So light and floaty for this hot weather that we're experiencing right now, and the flared sleeves bring the dress that 60's/70's vibe that I'm always searching for.

Denim-ize

Displaying photo.JPG
+I do not own any of these photos

The sun is out and all throughout the shops its denim galore. Jackets, shorts, skirts, jumpsuits etc etc. I'm quite picky when it comes to denim, I'm not always a big fan and it was only until recently that I actually ventured out and bought of a couple of denim bits for my wardrobe. I haven't worn a pair of jeans in about 7 years and I will not wear anything like a denim shirt (just my personal opinion.) However saying that, I do love denim when worn as a skirt, dress, jacket and (especially this summer) a jumpsuit. I think denim is perfect for our good old typical English weather when you can never rely on either sun or rain. Denim can be worn on a dressy night out with a pair of high heel wedges or to a casual family BBQ in a pair of flip flops or plimsolls. It's perfect when you can create thousands of different outfits with just one item of clothing.

So for you, I have picked out my fav denim pieces right now. Enjoy!

MOTO CULOTTE CUT-OUT JUMPSUIT - £45
I love my jumpsuits right now, since this summer I have never been tempted to them and never thought they would suit me, but after trying on one and buying it I have been obsessed with them ever since! This jumpsuit caught my eye the moment I saw it, the shape is perfect and I think it has a very 70's vibe to it, just top it off with a floppy hat and you'll be on your way to Woodstock before you know it.

MANGO BUTTON DENIM SKIRT - £34.99
I feel half way there to being Kelly Kapowski when I wear my denim skirt, yeah right?! Wear with a cute pastel coloured gypsy top or crop top and even go all out and add that denim jacket to create a vintage-esque, risque 'double denim' look that we're all scared to try out again.

MOTO DENIM ZIP FRONT DRESS -£38
I first saw this on Instagram and fell in love instantly! It's so perfect, I love the shape and even the zip (I normally hate any kind of zips on clothes)

SUPERSOFT DRESS - £38
Cute little dress to wear any day, every day. And the belt adds a great touch to it which will also flatter any figure.

CHAMBRAY SHIRT DRESS - £9.99
How much?! I know, I had a double take too. This dress is so pretty, I love the way the belt sits, it adds a very feminine touch to it. This dress is perfect for wearing throughout the day, on holiday and at home.

lilypatricia...

Oh, hi there! Welcome to lilypatricia... my little space on the internet where I get to ramble on about all the things I love from fashion to music to style to anything vintage etc. I've always been so inspired by many other blogs that I have stumbled upon in the last few years, and about 2 years ago I started 'You had me at Vintage' blog that was about (you got it) Vintage. However I recently stopped blogging due to lack of time, material and motivation. I found it very time consuming planning each post 3 times a week, as I couldn't always write from my own mind, I had to research all the different decades and the endless looks that come along with it. So now, many months later, I have decided to rise again, but this time it will be more personal. Obviously there will be the occasional vintage posts (how could I not?!) but this blog will become more focused on my loves and my interests. So any who, I hope you enjoy reading and I look forward to hearing from you all!

All my love,
Lily
